Most properties in France have a customer supplied earth known in the U.K as a T.T. system with an earth spike. The main switch needs to be able to detect differential flows of current in the incoming supply, without nuisance tripping. Tests to confirm and prove the earth resistance is within the required limits >100 Ohms.
